Sketch Furniture

As a precedent study, I looked at the process and fabrication of the Sketch Furniture Series by FRONT Design. This project by FRONT was done in the early 2000s and was innovative in both its use of motion tracking for the design process, and 3D printing for production. Though the original project was done using an array of six to eight cameras, a custom tracking stylus, and a custom tracking software, I was lucky enough to be able to get access to the beta of Gravity Sketch, a 3D modeling software available for the Oculus Quest, a standalone VR headset. Using this software, I was able to recreate a similar process to the one used in the original project. The animation I created was in response to a request to visualize the construction of the object, and was accomplished using Grasshopper to move a clipping plane through space in Rhino.
